Oil changes are a part of your regular Lincoln automobile and engine maintenance, which should not be forgotten about and need to be performed regularly because clean oil lubricates and protects your engine to ensure its proper function. Without this periodic service, the resulting metal-on-metal contact could cause severe damage.

While assuring that your Lincoln receives this regular form of routine maintenance seems fairly basic, the most common that your Troy, MI Lincoln dealer often receives is….

How often?

There is a lot of controversy about exactly when to schedule a Lincoln oil change. Because there are many factors at work, which include how you drive, the condition and age of the engine, the external environment you drive in, and stop-and-go versus highway driving this is often an inexact science. We know, great answer huh?

Fortunately, our certified Lincoln technicians have the answers that you are seeking. In general, your Lincoln dealer recommends the following oil change schedule:

·         2008 and newer model-year vehicles: An oil change is recommended every 7,500 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

·         2007 and older model-year vehicles: An oil change is recommended every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

Schedule your oil and filter change more often if you have any of the following driving habits:

·         Towing or carrying heavy loads

·         Idling extensively or driving at low speeds for long distances

·         Driving in dusty conditions

·         Driving off-road frequently

·         Refueling with E85 fuel more than 50 percent of the time

When you drive regularly on rugged terrain or in unfavorable conditions, your Lincoln service dealer recommends an alternate oil change schedule:

·         2008 and newer model-year vehicles: An oil change is recommended every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

·         2007 and older model-year vehicles: An oil change is recommended every 3,000 miles or every three months, whichever comes first.

Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor

As part of its luxuriously smart features, each Lincoln model on our showroom floor even includes a feature called the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM). This feature, located on the instrument panel, even keeps track of when an oil change should be scheduled. IOLM notifies you at key oil change intervals by displaying alerts such as "Engine Oil Change Soon" or "Oil Change Required". The system also alerts you when your fuel filters need maintenance or fuel pressure is low. Using an algorithm that calculates your oil change intervals based on actual engine operating conditions, the system must be reset after each oil change. Not doing so will result in a premature "Oil Change Required" alert.
