Competitive Perceptions

Acura claims that the RDX changes for 2016 resulted in a more powerful and fuel-efficient 3.5L i-VTEC V6 engine.

  • 279 horsepower
  • 252 lb.-ft. of torque

Acura RDX makes a full suite of driver-assist technologies readily available by offering its AcuraWatch Plus Package at $1,300. It includes:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Color multi-information display (with turn-by-turn guidance when model is equipped with navigation)

Acura promotes its 2018 RDX as delivering comfort on demand. It offers heated front seats standard. For year-round comfort, ventilated front seats are included in the available $1,700 Advanced Package.

Lincoln Reality

Acura is able to keep the price of this package reasonable because it has removed features that were included in 2017. For example, to get the Blind Spot Information System , Rear Cross Traffic Monitor and dynamic lines on the rear camera display, RDX owners must also opt for the $3,700 Tech Package. To get front and rear parking sensors, they must also choose the Advanced Package. It costs an additional $1,700. That brings the total to $43,475.

By Comparison, Lincoln MKC Reserve FWD models equipped with the Tech Package feature a $43,205 MSRP. This allows Lincoln MKC owners to get all of the features found in RDX, plus added convenience of active park assist and Auto Start-Stop Tech, and still save hundreds!

The $1,700 Advanced package for RDX does not tell the complete story. Acura clients cannot simply choose this package; they must also choose the AcuraWatch Plus Package ($1,300) and the $3,700 Tech Package. That puts the minimum price for ventilated front seats at $43,475.

Climate-controlled ventilated (cooled) front seats are standard on Lincoln MKC Reserve FWD, which features a $40,910 price - a $2,565 price advantage over Acura RDX.

Selling Luxury

"The Turbocharged 2.3L engine in Lincoln MKC produces slightly more horsepower, while both the 2.3L and the Turbocharged 2.0L engine produce more torque than the Acura 3.5L engine. They also have lower operating costs since they don't require the more expensive premium fuel of the Acura 3.5L engine.

"Additionally, Lincoln MKC equipped with either engine and the Trailer tow package can tow up to 3,000 lbs. which is double the estimated towing capacity of the RDX."

"With available Tech Package, you can get a Lincoln MKC with all of the features offered in the AcuraWatch suite of technologies and come out more than $200 ahead."

"With Linocln MKC, you also get the added convenience of active park assist and Auto Start-Stop Tech. These features are not available at any cost on the 2018 Acura RDX."

Lincoln Reality

BMW X3 is really only giving its client a choice of one engine: the 2.0L has slightly more horsepower and significantly less torque than the Turbocharged 2.0L in Lincoln MKC.

Lincoln MKC owners who want more performance from their vehicle can opt for the Turbocharged 2.3L engine. Featuring a $1,140 price. It produces 285 horsepower and 305lb.-ft. of torque.

Lincoln MKC drivers save when they refuel their vehicle, as either engine can operate on 87-octane gasoline compared the X3s 91+-octane premium fuel.

Driving technologies that ensure both driving pleasure and enhanced control are also found on Lincoln MKC and include standard electric power-assisted steering and standard Torque Vectoring Control. Torque Vectoring Control improves driving performance, especially in curves.

Selling Luxury

Competitive Perceptions

Lexus claims that the NX 300 combines design, intuitive technology and a potent turbocharged engine to take on whatever urban adventure comes your way.

  • 2.0L Dual VVT-i I-4.
  • 235 horsepower
  • 258 lb.-ft. of torwue

Lexus NX 300 is frequently lauded as being the best SUV for the money.

Lexus NX300 delivers a copiously roomy interior.

Lincoln Reality

Lexus NX 300 only offers one powertrain choice and it comes up well short of either Lincoln MKC engine.

Turbocharged 2.0L:

  • 245 horsepower
  • 275 lb.-ft. of torque

Turbocharged 2.3L:

  • 285 horsepower
  • 305 lb.-ft. of torque

Any way it's measured, Lincoln MKC offers superior value. Take fuel economy, for example. While the Lexus 2.0L engine has a slight edge, it requires 91+-octane premium fuel, making Lincoln MKC the better overall value. Lincoln MKC Premiere FWD is also priced $2,000 less than the entry level NX 300, yet it offers a fuller range of standard equipment.

Perhaps Lexus uses a different measurement in determining that its NX 300 has an abundantly roomy interior. Many media reviews have noted its limited cargo capacity behind the rear seat (17.7 cu. ft.). It pales in comparison to the 25.2 cu. ft. in Lincoln MKC. Lincoln MKC also has more rear leg room and more head room (front and rear) than Lexus NX 300

Selling Luxury

"Compared ot Lexus NX 300, Lincoln MKC is lighter and more powerful. The Turbocharged 2.3L delivers 50 more horsepower and nearly 50 more lb.-ft. of torque. That's a difference you will notice when the vehicle is fully loaded during a passing maneuver. "

"Lincoln MKC is priced thousands less than Lexus NX 300, yet it offers such standard equipment as 18-inch aluminum wheels, drivers' memory seat and heated front seats. These features are extra-cost options on Lexus NX 300. Additionally, the Lincoln Roadside Assistance Program is available for the lifetime of ownership, while Lexus coverage ends after 4 years or 48,000 miles. "

"Lincoln is also the only luxury automotive manufacturer to nationally offer owners a standard vehicle Pickup & Delivery service. "

Competitive Perceptions

Mercedez-Benz promotes GLC 300 as an SUV for the driving enthusiast. There are two available engines: The 2.0L turbo I-4 with 241 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque - and the 3.0L bi-turbo V6 which has 362 horsepower and 384 lb.-ft. of torque. Agility Control comes Standard and Air Body Control is available.

The GLC 300 offers a flexible interior with more leg room and more cargo room.

The Mercedez-Benz name has a great deal of cache, and the uninitiated believe these vehicles deliver great value for the money.

Lincoln Reality

The Turbocharged 2.0L in Lincoln MKC matches the horsepower and torque of the GLC 300 engine. For those drivers who want a more powerful engine, the Turbocharged 2.3L delivers 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. torque. It's available for an additional $1,140, a dramatically better value than the $14,000-plus price step between a GLC 300 4matic and the AMG GLC 43.

Lincoln MKC is also ideally equipped to deliver exceptional driving ability, thanks to such features as Torque Vectoring Control, adaptive suspension and electric power-assisted steering (EPAS).

Any statement like that should always require one to ask, "More than what?" Certainly not more than Lincoln MKC which offers more head room (front and rear), more front leg room and more cargo capacity with the rear-row seat in place.

GLC 300 also weighs more than Lincoln MKC, possibly making it more ponderous to maneuver.

Selling Luxury

"Lincoln agrees that an SUV should be sporty. and LincolnMKC certainly delivers by offering a choice of two very powerful engines at affordable prices."

"Since performance is also determined by how well a vehicle handles, Lincoln MKC offers Torque Vectoring Control as standard equipment. This innovative feature improves vehicle handling under all conditions, especially in curves."

"Compared to GLC 300, which features an entry-level price of $41,045, Lincoln MKC costs nearly $7,000 less, yet it offers more or the standard equipment luxury SUV buyers expect from their vehicles.

Lincoln is also the only luxury automotive manufacturer to nationally offer owners a standard vehicle Pickup & Delivery Service."
